GC House: A Refreshing Approach to Contemporary Design

Creating a Flexible Living Space Filled with Natural Light

The project involved a complete renovation of a Victorian terraced house, including a kitchen extension, loft and basement conversion. The goal was to modernize the home while maintaining the integrity of the existing exterior. The result is a seamless blend of old and new, with a design that maximizes natural light and creates a sense of space and continuity.

At the heart of the GC House is the glass staircase that links all floors. This unique feature allows light to flow effortlessly through the property, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. The staircase also serves as a focal point, with views up through the home that further enhance the sense of space.

One of the key strengths of this design is its emphasis on minimal sightlines and subtle textures. The use of clear and frosted glass, oak, and douglas fir throughout the home creates a series of interconnected spaces that promote relaxation and harmony. The douglas fir and oak herringbone flooring and furniture add warmth and character to the overall design.

In terms of technical specifications, the GC House spans 3950 sq.ft. across four levels of a terrace house in Fulham, West London. The design team, led by Inaki Leite, carefully considered every detail to ensure the project's success.

One of the main challenges of the project was the creation of the glass cantilevers for the staircase and dining table. These technically demanding features required innovative solutions to achieve the desired aesthetic and functionality.
