The design inspiration behind Moena Cafe Taipei was to create a modernized version of a Hawaiian island resort. Lab Modus aimed to evoke the rich senses of the ocean and flowers, creating a refreshing atmosphere that stands out from other restaurant designs. The unique properties of this design lie in its ability to transport visitors to a tropical paradise, despite being located in the heart of Taipei.
Lab Modus utilized a variety of materials and technologies to bring this design to life. Metal, acrylic, and wood were shaped using CNC and laser cutting techniques to create the intricate details of the cafe. The reception counter was sculpted with curves, reminiscent of ocean waves, and the dining area features a richly layered design with 380 ceiling chandeliers, creating a stunning lighting scene.
The main wall on the first floor is built by 2880 varied pillars, creating a dynamic rhythm. At night, the cafe reflects the waterfront landscape with living color LED lighting, providing a spiritual charge for visitors. The design was realized in 2016 in Taipei, with the help of team members Ming-Chin Wu and Kevin Chang.
Moena Cafe Taipei has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, creativity, and innovation. The cafe's design was admired for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
The intellectual property rights for the design of Moena Cafe Taipei are held by Lab Modus and Kevin Chang. The design is a testament to their ability to transform a space into a unique and engaging environment, setting a new standard for restaurant design.
