Lotfi Sidirahal's inspiration for the design of Anantara Jabal Akhdar Resort was drawn from the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of Oman. The resort's interiors are a testament to Sidirahal's vision of 'rooted luxury', a concept that combines timeless elegance with a deep connection to the local environment and culture. The minimalist style is accentuated by warm, rich colours, traditional artwork, Arabesque lanterns, and handmade pottery. The design also incorporates iconic local elements such as mountain roses, pomegranates, and marine fossils.
The resort is situated on a 6.6 Ha cliff edge plot, 2,000m above sea level, with a built-up area of 24,000m². It boasts 115 luxury guest rooms and villas, six restaurants and lounges, a spa and recreational facilities. The 82 Deluxe Rooms are among the largest in the country, each featuring a spacious bedroom, a spa-like bathroom, and a balcony. The 33 One- or Two-Bedroom Villas offer guests a private infinity pool overlooking the cliff or nestled in an exotic garden.
What sets Anantara Jabal Akhdar apart is its unique blend of traditional and contemporary design. Sidirahal created 80 furniture pieces as "contemporary interpretations of traditional Omani design". These pieces were inspired by architectural details found in doorframes, ancient ceilings, and traditional chests, resulting in a unique furniture line that meets luxury resort standards while staying true to Omani heritage.
The construction of the resort started in December 2013 and was completed in September 2016. The project's success is evident in its recognition by the prestigious A' Design Award. In 2017, Anantara Jabal Akhdar was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, a testament to Sidirahal's prodigious talent and the resort's extraordinary excellence.
In conclusion, Anantara Jabal Akhdar Resort is a shining example of how design can bridge the gap between tradition and modernity. Lotfi Sidirahal's design is a celebration of Omani culture, expressed through a lens of contemporary luxury. It is a testament to the power of design to create spaces that not only provide comfort and luxury but also connect us to our roots and the natural world around us.
