Cannibalumin: A Modern Luminaire Inspired by Self-Cannibalism

Bringing a Sense of Modernity to the Atmosphere of the Home

The particular shape of the annular luminaire is inspired by the king snake and the phenomenon of self-cannibalism. Cannibalumin, designed by Nima Bavardi, combines function and aesthetic beauty, creating a unique lighting experience for the home.

Cannibalumin, derived from the words "cannibal" and "luminaire," is an eye-catching design that features an LED light source on its head and a separate solar panel made of Si-based solar cells. The LED light emits a wavelength in the range of 400-1100 nm, while the solar panel charges both from the LED light and direct sunlight. The placement angle of the light has been carefully designed to provide better diffusion and illumination, adhering to ergonomic standards.

The main body of Cannibalumin is made of black anodized metal, giving it a sleek and modern appearance. With a pipe radius of 1.5 cm and a circle radius of 15 cm, this luminaire is both compact and visually striking.

One of the key strengths of Cannibalumin is its autonomous power system, combining the functionality of the LED light and the Si-based solar cell. This design not only saves energy but also allows for adjustable forms, angles, and amounts of light, catering to various uses and preferences. The emotional connection between Cannibalumin and its users adds a touch of personalization to the lighting experience, while the modern design enhances the overall atmosphere of the home.

The inspiration for Cannibalumin came from the king snake and the phenomenon of self-cannibalism. When these snakes get too hot, they begin to eat their own tails, creating a circle. Similarly, the self-cannibalism cycle between the LED lamp and the Si-based solar cell in Cannibalumin creates a unique and captivating visual effect.

The design process for Cannibalumin involved extensive research into snakes and cannibalism, both structurally and emotionally. The challenge was to merge function and aesthetic beauty into a new concept of a luminaire. By utilizing solar panels instead of traditional energy sources, Cannibalumin offers an eco-friendly and cost-effective lighting solution.

Cannibalumin, designed by Nima Bavardi, was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2017. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Cannibalumin stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
