Butterfly Magnetic Effects

Multi-functional Pen Holder

Butterflies have been widely used in many objects of creation as they symbolize rebirth, soul, and transition. The design inspiration for the Butterfly Magnetic Effects pen holder came from designer Rachel Chen's cross-cultural journey from the butterfly kingdom of Taiwan to the vivid modern stained glass of a German church. The design incorporates three endangered species of Taiwanese butterflies, as well as a black and white butterfly, to create a unique and meaningful piece. The intention behind the design is to bring nature and vitality into everyday life and evoke environmental awareness.

The Butterfly Magnetic Effects pen holder stands out with its vibrant colors and symmetric outlines of butterflies. It is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional, serving as an interior decorating idea for the home office. The pen holder can be attached to various pen clips within 6 mm width, allowing users to conveniently carry their favorite pen anywhere.

The pen holder's wings are made of synthetic paper and soft magnetic material. Through experimentation with materials, scale, shape, space, loading gravity capacity, duration, and usage, the traditional bookmark has been revolutionized and transformed into a multi-functional pen holder. The design incorporates a 6 mm width gap for folding and unfolding the pen clip and paper, adding to its unique characteristics.

Specifications for the Butterfly Magnetic Effects pen holder include a size of approximately 8.5 x 8 cm (die-cut shape) and a model that combines a pen holder, bookmark, and pen carrier. The package options range from a single butterfly pen holder on a square folding gift card to multiple butterflies on rectangle cards. Additionally, there is an option to purchase a butterfly pen holder with a pen on a paper pen case.

The Butterfly Magnetic Effects pen holder interacts seamlessly with books, office partitions, whiteboards, and refrigerators, serving different functions in various settings. Its operation is simple, requiring only two actions: folding and unfolding. Users can use it as a bookmark and pen carrier with a book, or place it on office partitions, whiteboards, and refrigerators as a pen keeper. It can also be utilized as a paper organizer to separate documents and receipts, adding practicality to its elegant design.

The Butterfly Magnetic Effects pen holder was part of Rachel Chen's flying dreams collection, with the project starting in 2015 and finishing in 2016 in Taipei. The design was the result of experimentation and overcoming challenges to find the appropriate proportion and functionality. It has been patented and copyrighted by Rachel Chen.

This innovative and practical design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category in 2017. The award recognizes well-designed creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics. The Butterfly Magnetic Effects pen holder is not only visually appealing but also contributes to a better world by bringing nature and functionality into everyday life.
