Revolutionizing Furniture Assembly with 3D Printing

Gellert Olle's "Print to Build" Wins Platinum A' Design Award

3D printing technology is revolutionizing the way we assemble furniture. Gellert Olle's innovative "Print to Build" collection, which won the Platinum A' Design Award in 2018, is a testament to this evolution.

Olle's design was inspired by the need to optimize the use of desktop 3D printers in our homes. The focus has shifted from rapid prototyping to rapid manufacturing, and Olle's joint design is a solution to this emerging challenge. By printing only the small joints, larger objects can be assembled using different materials.

The "Print to Build" collection is optimized for 3D printers and allows for the connection of 8 millimetres plywood sheets at various angles. The design eliminates the need for screws or glue, making assembly straightforward and sparking creativity. The collection includes 90, 45, and 120-degree elements.

Olle's design is not just functional but also sustainable. The joints are designed to use the least amount of material while providing maximum strength. This thoughtful design approach makes the collection suitable even for basic 3D printers. The prototypes were printed using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) technology.

The "Print to Build" collection is more than just a set of furniture joints; it's a toy for adults. The design encourages interaction and creativity, allowing users to build furniture, installations, partitions, and more. The design was exhibited in Singapore, Paris, Madrid, Jonkoping, and Budapest between 2016 and 2017.

The Platinum A' Design Award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing. Olle's "Print to Build" collection, with its unique approach to 3D printing and furniture assembly, is a deserving recipient of this prestigious award.

The future of furniture assembly is here, and it's 3D printed. Gellert Olle's "Print to Build" collection is a testament to the power of innovation and a glimpse into the future of home manufacturing.
