Intorno Design's inspiration for the RUFA Annual Report 2016 came from the academy's diverse creative output. The report is a compilation of the best efforts from the academy's didactic and creative output over the year. The design uses expressive typography and combines photography with magenta thread artistic submissions to reflect the school's multidisciplinary nature, open to artistic and project contamination and layering.
The RUFA Annual Report 2016 stands out for its unique properties. The free-form layout, visible binding, and use of 802 and 806 Pantone Neon hues in hexachrome printing all contribute to its distinctive aesthetic. The white cover, offset-printed, features a letter from an imaginary teacher to a prospective student, adding a personal touch to the report.
One of the most innovative aspects of the design is its use of augmented reality. The 16-page, differently sized bi-chrome insert reports about one of the most significant moments of the last year: the RUFA contest. This insert contains extra digital content, viewable via a dedicated app for smartphones or tablets, adding a modern, interactive element to the report.
The design process for the RUFA Annual Report 2016 began in December 2016 and concluded in March 2017. The report is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the design team, including Intorno Design, Ufficio comunicazione RUFA, and many others. The final product measures 215 mm x 15 mm x 280 mm and is composed of the book and the poster/book jacket.
The RUFA Annual Report 2016 is not just a book; it's an interactive experience that brings the academy's year to life in a unique and engaging way. The design's success was recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in 2018, a prestigious accolade awarded to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
