Tango: A Harmonic Integration of Design and Engineering

Aesthetic Vase with Character Lines

Tango vase, designed by Juan A. García and Juan D. Ramos, is a unique and captivating piece that seamlessly blends design and engineering. Inspired by the beauty of flowers in motion and the fluidity of Tango music, this vase embodies a dynamic visual state that delights and captivates.

Tango vase was born from the idea of encapsulating a form-giving experience that combines engineering and design. By leveraging state-of-the-art technologies and emphasizing aesthetic value, the designers aimed to create a harmonious balance in a world where the boundaries between disciplines are fading.

The inspiration for Tango vase came from two scenarios. The first is the beauty of flowers in their natural state, dancing with the wind in the countryside. However, when gathered to decorate a table or a window, they lose their dance. The designers sought to symbolically prolong this state of movement and vitality within the home. The second inspiration came from Tango music, known for its fluidity and ability to bring life to any stage. By uniting these concepts, the designers created a vase that visually represents the dynamic and captivating nature of both flowers and Tango.

Tango vase stands out for its harmonic integration of design and engineering. The flow of character lines suggests constant movement, creating a shape that develops with the eye. The designers used 3D printing in the iterative design process to appreciate and refine the shape, resulting in a product that delights and captivates.

With dimensions of 150mm width, 150mm depth, and 210mm height, Tango vase is a visually striking and unique addition to any space. Its seamless blend of form and function makes it a true work of art.

The user can simply place the vase on a table with flowers and enjoy a relaxing moment, shifting and drifting with the feelings evoked by the design. Tango vase invites contemplation and appreciation of the beauty of movement and harmony.

The design process for Tango vase began in February 2017 in Berlin, Germany, as part of an academic program that included a trip to the Ambiente tradeshow and immersion in the design culture of Germany. The program concluded in March 2017 in Colombia, where the vase was first exhibited in a class exposition. The design showcases the integration of engineering and design, highlighting the ability to transform intangible inspirations into tangible objects.

Tango vase is a testament to the designers' commitment to research and innovation. They leveraged advanced computer-aided design and surface modeling techniques, as well as 3D printing experimentation, to bring their vision to life. The result is a vase that embodies the essence of dance motion and the beauty of nature.

Recognized for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity, Tango vase was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2018. This prestigious award honors designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
