The Bovet Clock Tower stands tall in Seoul's Yongsan Business District, capturing the attention of passersby with its striking design. The tower's shape, inspired by a moebius strip, represents the concept of infinity and the continuous flow of time. From different perspectives, the tower also resembles the shape of the number eight, a symbol of luck and fortune in Chinese culture.
Constructed using advanced technology, the clocktower's structure is made of a perfectly molded hollow steel strap. This 3D CAD data-based design reflects the surrounding light on its bead-blasted surface, creating a captivating play of light and shadow. Small light spots on the sides of the watchstrap periodically illuminate, resembling units of time flying across the tower's curves.
Standing at a height of five meters with a depth of 2.5 meters, the Bovet Clock Tower features enhanced watches with a diameter of 65 centimeters. These oversized dials and watch cases pay homage to Bovet's classic AI43 "Monsieur Bovet" and AIFSQ "Amedeo Amedeo" timepieces, showcasing their original proportions, materials, and details.
The Bovet Clock Tower not only serves as a stunning piece of art but also acts as a strong brand ambassador for Bovet. It forms the energetic core of a newly designed lobby area, captivating visitors and inspiring them to reflect on the transience of time. As a landmark in the Yongsan Business District, it also acts as a meeting point for locals and visitors alike.
This permanent installation in Seoul's Asterium Towers was a result of a collaboration between Tilla Goldberg, Peter Ippolito, Senhui Qiu, Jonas Hertwig, Tim Lessmann, Mario Rodriguez, and Verena Schiffl. Their collective efforts brought the Bovet Clock Tower to life, showcasing the fusion of art, design, and technology.
The Bovet Clock Tower has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Luxury Design category in 2018. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
With its unique design and captivating presence, the Bovet Clock Tower stands as a testament to the intersection of art, architecture, design, and technology. It invites viewers to contemplate the passage of time and serves as a symbol of beauty and innovation in Seoul's bustling cityscape.
