Revolutionizing Infant Feeding: The Whale Spoon by Roberto Stein

Winner of the Golden A' Design Award, this innovative spoon is transforming the way infants eat

With a unique design inspired by observing infants, the Whale Spoon by Roberto Stein is a game-changer in the realm of baby utensils. This innovative spoon, which won the prestigious Golden A' Design Award, offers a spill-free solution for infants learning to self-feed.

Roberto Stein's inspiration for the Whale Spoon came from observing his 1.5-year-old daughter and other infants eating soup. He noticed that the tilting of regular spoons was responsible for spills. After 12 years of product development and testing, Stein perfected the shape of the spoon and its special cavity. The spoon's silicone body is engineered to provide soft and stiffer areas according to its function.

The Whale Spoon's unique properties make it ideal for infants' first self-feeding experiences. Its special cavity prevents spilling when back- and side-tilted, while the soft material makes it easy to scoop all the food out. The spoon is safe for the gums and face, even when mishits occur. The body shape adapts perfectly to small hands, and the tail is used for feeding firm foods. The spoon's "fins" prevent it from touching the table, and babies also love it as a teether.

Made of 100 percent food-grade silicone, the Whale Spoon complies with American FDA and German LFGB standards and is BPA free. It is practically indestructible and designed to last. The spoon is dishwasher safe, withstands temperatures from minus 60 C degree to plus 200 C degree, and is microwave safe.

The friendly shape of the Whale Spoon encourages babies and kids to eat their meals in a playful way. Despite natural tilting movements, the soup remains in the spoon. The soft silicone material allows the infant to take the meal easily into the mouth and scoop all the food from the plate. It is grippy and adapts to the infants' hands. It can also be used as a teether. The “fins” prevent the spoon from touching the table. And the spoon can be used from both sides for different kinds of foods.

The project started in 2003 while Stein was observing his daughter eat soup as an infant. After several prototypes and tests with infants, the final shape for mass manufacturing was created. The spoon has been available for purchase since December 2017. The Whale Spoon is a registered design with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA).

In conclusion, the Whale Spoon by Roberto Stein is a revolutionary product in the world of infant feeding. Its unique design and functionality have not only made it a favorite among parents and children but also earned it the prestigious Golden A' Design Award. This innovative spoon is a testament to the power of observation and the potential of design to transform everyday experiences.
