In ancient times, ice cubes were considered a rare gift. Today, they are a common feature in handcrafted beverages. Chia-Yen Hung has taken this everyday object and elevated it to an art form. The teashop's golden-and-white façades depict abstract ice cube shapes, creating a visually striking aesthetic that sets Sharetea apart from other establishments.
The ice cube motif is not just limited to the façades. The interior of the shop is adorned with white seats that mimic the scattering of small ice cubes. The centerpiece of the design is a large golden architectural structure that represents a giant ice cube. This eye-catching feature adds a touch of glamour to the otherwise minimalist design.
The 110 square meter space was completed in 2017. Despite the design's complexity, the construction materials used are exquisite, and the indoor space maintains a clean and elegant feel. The shop's corner location allows for a display window that showcases the bustling activity inside, reinforcing the business's belief that "more people, more business."
Chia-Yen Hung's design has not only created a visually appealing space but also a popular social media spot. The owner's aim to promote the products through visual influence has been successful, with the shop becoming a hot Facebook check-in spot. The design's popularity has also been recognized by the prestigious A' Design Award, where it was awarded Silver in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2018.
The "Ice Cubes" design faced several challenges, including the transformation of an old architectural column into the dazzling golden structure that now serves as the shop's centerpiece. Despite these challenges, the design has been successful in capturing the refreshing energy of Sharetea's cold beverages and creating a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Chia-Yen Hung's innovative approach to design has resulted in a space that is not only visually stunning but also serves as a successful marketing tool. The "Ice Cubes" design is a testament to the power of design and its ability to transform a simple idea into a tangible reality.
