Reviving Japanese Traditions: Hana Giku Restaurant

Traditional Japanese Aesthetics Meet Modern Dining in Vincent Chi-wai Chiang's Design

Immerse yourself in the world of Hana Giku, a Japanese fine dining restaurant designed by Vincent Chi-wai Chiang. This award-winning design combines traditional Japanese aesthetics with a modern dining experience, creating an atmosphere of elegance and joy.

The inspiration behind Hana Giku's design is deeply rooted in Japanese culture. The chrysanthemum, a symbol of longevity and rejuvenation, is a beloved flower in Japan. The act of flower viewing, or hanami, is a popular social activity in Japan during the blossom season. Drawing on these cultural elements, Chiang has created a lively and joyful dining environment that encourages social gathering among family, friends, and colleagues.

What sets Hana Giku apart from other restaurants is its unique design properties. The restaurant boasts a strong traditional style, with the ceiling and walls showcasing the beauty and sophistication of Japanese architecture. The concept of "Dancing Chrysanthemum" is brought to life through the design, creating an atmosphere of happiness and hilarity. The main cooking area, located at the center of the restaurant, serves as a stage for the chef to perform in front of the customers, further enhancing the dining experience.

The realization of Hana Giku's design was made possible through innovative technology. The restaurant features a large air circulation system that ensures good air conditioning and air quality. The ceiling above the main cooking area is built in a traditional manner, expressing the beauty of Japanese architecture and embodying the concept of dancing flowers.

Despite the design challenges, such as catering to different scenarios with three VIP rooms and ensuring that the restaurant's atmosphere is not ruined by the mixture of scent and smoke from the Teppanyaki stove, Chiang and his team successfully created a space that enhances the dining experience. The restaurant emphasizes gathering and sharing moments with family and friends, reflecting the importance of flower viewing in Japanese culture.

Hana Giku's design has been recognized for its creativity and innovation, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder. With its unique blend of traditional Japanese aesthetics and modern dining, Hana Giku is a testament to Chiang's design prowess.
