The inspiration behind the Nzinga Fein is a desire to disrupt the traditional, masculine power dynamic associated with neckties. Tincher's vision was to create a simple, contemporary neckwear that caters to all genders. The Nzinga tie, featuring a metallic bee design, is not only a fashion statement but also a symbol of environmental advocacy. With every tie sold, a donation is made to the Planet Bee Foundation, an organization dedicated to saving bees.
What sets Dwimmer ties apart is their unique patent-pending method of tying, secured by a metal accent piece. This ensures ease of use and the perfect length every time. Handcrafted in California, these ties are double-sided, offering a smooth finish and a hint of contrast. They come in four different shapes and sizes, catering to a diverse customer base. Each tie also includes a unique QR code, providing access to the exclusive Dwimmer 'Secret Society.'
The production process of the Nzinga Tie involves individual embroidery, cutting, sewing, and grommeting. The tie is made from a custom-colored cotton and polyester textile, designed and produced by a mother-daughter team in France. The back of the tie is made of high-end satin from England. The unique QR code on each tie allows wearers to access customized content, a feature developed using Ruby on Rails.
The Nzinga Tie is 38.1 cm in length from neck to tip and 6.35 cm in width. The design process, which began in Summer 2015, involved extensive research and testing. Tincher surveyed twenty men and women from various backgrounds to understand their perspectives on neckties and their fashion preferences. Following a successful private event in San Francisco, the ties were launched online in January 2016.
Despite the challenges faced during the design process, including perfecting the construction of the ties and navigating the patent process, Dwimmer has successfully redefined neckwear for today. The Nzinga Tie, with its modern metal element and easy-to-tie method, is a testament to Dwimmer's commitment to innovation and design excellence. This commitment was recognized when the Nzinga Tie was awarded Silver in A' Fashion and Travel Accessories Design Award in 2018.
