Extended Lines: A Unique Residential House Design

Unleashing Memories and Harmonizing Cultures

CKS memorial hall is a place we were familiar with growing up. It is filled with our memories of rollerblading, taking walks, playing in the woods, etc. As we grow older, these memories still live in our hearts. Along with time passing by, the only unchanged part is the blue rooftop in the skyline that connects us with 60 years old of history. A chance encounter brought the owner to purchase this old, 4th floor apartment. Despite the old structure, when the owner walked to the window side, overlooking the blue rooftop in the skyline, he was reminded of his childhood memories.

The Extended Lines residential house, designed by Ciro Liu, is a testament to the power of memories. The design concept revolves around the idea of preserving and honoring the past while embracing the future. The major characteristic of this residence is memories, and to reflect this, the color palette has been reduced to a minimum. The only color left is blue, symbolizing the concept of old memories. The design also incorporates a diagonal line inspired by the CKS memorial hall rooftop, representing not only old memories but also the lines of a future, harmonized life brought together by a cross-cultural couple.

Spanning across 130 square meters, the Extended Lines house is a visual masterpiece. The use of different angles and heights as design elements creates a front view that resembles a painting. It tells the intermingled story of two individuals with beyond-limit beliefs. By breaking away from traditional horizontals and verticals, the beauty of the space is revealed through multiple perspectives.

The project, which started in October 2015 in Taipei, was completed in March 2016. The meticulous attention to detail and the thoughtful incorporation of memories make the Extended Lines house a truly unique and captivating living space. It serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving our past while embracing the future.

The Extended Lines design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Extended Lines house stands out for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings to its inhabitants and contributing to a better world.
