The design of Seehof was inspired by the hotel's natural surroundings. The wooden facade and its rough surface reflect the local environment, and regional materials were incorporated wherever possible. The hotel's location near a small natural lake, "Flötscher Weiher," played a significant role in shaping the design concept. The goal was to place nature and recreational value at the forefront, creating a space where guests could relax and connect with nature.
The redesign added 16 new suites, a pool, and a wellness area to the hotel. These new additions were designed to blend seamlessly with the existing structure and the surrounding landscape. Large panorama windows offer stunning views of the lake, while open areas, known as patios, create the feeling of being in a large park. The outdoor areas were also carefully designed, with a heated outdoor pool and an extension of the bathing pond adding to the overall experience.
The use of sustainable materials and techniques was a key aspect of the design. Precast concrete wall panels, glass walls, green roofs, wooden pergolas, and terraces were used in the construction. The building's construction system, which combines green roofs, precast concrete walls, and insulation, meets high sustainability standards. The glass walls improve daylight and ventilation, while the green roofs can be used for sunbathing and seamlessly transition into the surrounding forests and fruit orchards.
The interior design of the hotel also reflects the natural concept. Copper pipes, a nod to the region's apple tree cultivation history, are used as a design element throughout the hotel. Natural materials from the surrounding environment, such as wood, linen, and stone, were incorporated into the interior design, along with bright, discreet colors.
Seehof's redesign has been recognized for its innovative and exceptional design. In 2018, it was awarded the Platinum A' Hospitality, Recreation, Travel, and Tourism Design Award, which recognizes world-class, highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing. The award is a testament to Noa's ability to create a design that not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of a space but also promotes a deeper connection with nature.
In conclusion, the redesign of Seehof by Noa is a perfect example of how architecture and nature can be harmoniously integrated. The design's focus on sustainability, its use of local materials, and its ability to create a relaxing and nature-focused experience for guests make it a standout in the field of hotel design. The project serves as an inspiration for future designs that aim to blend architecture and nature in a meaningful and impactful way.
