House in SAKAI-5: A Diamond in the Rough

Shunichiro Ninomiya and Tomoko Morodome's Innovative Urban Design

The House in SAKAI-5 is built on a diamond-shaped irregular plot of land, a typical urban type housing with many constraints due to its narrow area. However, Ninomiya and Morodome saw this as an opportunity rather than a limitation. They wanted to create a design that not only made living easy but also added a unique aesthetic to the cityscape.

The design team, which also included Yuki Nakamura and Ryouji Adachi, utilized the irregular site geometry to their advantage.
