The 1,830sqft duplex is highlighted by the use of wooden accents and tranquil atmospheric elements. Lining the large window by the dining room is an L-shaped wooden storage system that keeps all objects at bay without blocking the view outside. On the other side is a room of white and harmonious wooden tones with a hidden door, creating a seamless flow throughout. The transparent staircases invite the outdoors in and blur the boundary in-between, setting a promising tone for more surprises to come.
Ecozmo eco-paint was aptly applied to the walls, as it is a natural clay-derived paint material that allows for a more breathable wall layer to adapt to the humid local weather. In the long run, it eases out the maintenance that needs to be taken care of and creates a stress-free living space. The design involves highly precise planning in advance to create a sustainable environment, so homeowners need not worry about taking down any existing decorations or interior elements even when they rent out or sell the property in the future.
Since the homeowner is an architect, insight from his aesthetically professional point of view was credited throughout the project journey. With countless meetings and fine-tuning of the layouts through to the detail drawings and overall design, the expectation and result of the design improved immensely.
The project was completed in 2015 in Hong Kong. The underlying research for this design focused on minimal style and ensuring that the 1,830 sqft apartment has a bright and cozy ambiance. Durability and eco-friendliness were also crucial elements that were considered.
The challenge of this particular design was complying with the detailed and precise dimensions and requirements set by the homeowner, who is an architect. Apart from meeting the specified measurements, the designer had to ensure that the interior was aesthetically pleasing and able to deliver the mood and ambiance the homeowner was asking for.
