Revolutionizing Calendars: The Sic Bo Concept

Ng Wai Ming Chris' Innovative Approach to Calendar Design

The inspiration for this unique design came from the traditional calendars that are common in the market. Ng Wai Ming Chris wanted to create a calendar that was different and fun. The idea was to combine the Sic Bo concept with the calendar, making it an interesting and engaging tool for planning holidays.

What sets this design apart from others is its unique properties. The designer combined the concept of counting months on knuckles, taught by Math teachers in childhood, with the Sic Bo concept. The calendar is tailored to help employees maximize their holidays by combining public holidays with their limited annual leaves.

The calendar was realized using 140 gsm Fedrigoni UK Splendorgel white paper. The specifications of the calendar are 600(w) x 460(h) and the envelope is 160(w) x 240(h). The design tags include Graphic, Design, Creative, Gamble, Calendar, Fun, and Holidays. The design team included Ng Wai Ming Chris, Sin King Man Kelly, and Or Chi Ban Stanley.

The design works by presenting all the holidays in a flash, allowing users to plan their leaves effectively. The project started in December 2017 in Hong Kong and finished in January 2018. The design research involved brainstorming on how to adapt the ideas of gambling into calendar graphics. The main challenge was adapting the gambling concept into the design due to the strong visual identities of most elements.

The result is a creative calendar that is an interesting mix of fun and practical. The use of Sic Bo gambling elements enhances the year-round holidays highlights and holiday maximization strategy. The eye-catching color and design make the calendar not only a traditional desktop calendar but an attractive poster. The groundbreaking design has changed the traditional approach to calendars.
