Timeless Elegance Meets Futuristic Design: The Klasern MOT Watch

Unveiling Tuan Hoang's Award-Winning Timepiece, a Fusion of Classic and Modern Aesthetics

The Klasern MOT watch, designed by Tuan Hoang, is a unique blend of elegance and modernity. The design draws inspiration from the Bauhaus and Atomic Age designs, emphasizing functionality and simplicity while embodying a futuristic look. The designer also incorporates the philosophy of Scandinavian design, characterized by minimalism and sustainability, into the collection.

What sets the MOT apart is its high precision Swiss quartz movement from Ronda, encased in a 38mm body available in silver, black, and rose gold. The powder-coated case, which holds a white double-layer dial inside, has a unique profile and invisible lugs. The case is further enhanced with a topcoat using the Physical Vapor Deposition process to improve hardness, scratch, and corrosion resistance. The use of sapphire crystal enhances the scratch and shatter resistance of the domed glass. The leather straps are crafted by artisans who prioritize quality workmanship.

The realization of the MOT watch design involved a meticulous process. The final prototype, ready for batch production, was achieved after numerous pencil and paper sketches evolved into computer constructs. A working plastic model was created using three-dimensional printing, and a Computer Numerical Control milling machine was used to produce the sample casing from a block of solid steel. The watch dial and hands were designed to suit the case, with the final selection made from several prototypes. The design process also extended to the watch band and packaging phase.

The project, which started in 2017 and concluded in 2018, was carried out in Vietnam and the United States. The development process of the MOT watches took over a year, with product designers and engineers questioning how the watch would express the brand's image, who would wear it, and what materials would be suitable for it. The most significant challenge was the stainless steel casing, which had to be thick enough to hold the double-layer dial fully inside and had an invisible lug to attach the strap.

The Klasern MOT watch is a Tuan Hoang design project in collaboration with Klasern. This award-winning design was recognized with the Silver A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2019. The award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
