AFC: The Multifunctional Garderobe

Integrating Function and Aesthetics for Everyday Wear

AFC is not just a regular wardrobe; it is a versatile piece of furniture that goes beyond hanging clothes. Inspired by the need to integrate everyday clothing, accessories, and related functions, Yue Wang designed AFC to be a space-saving solution that is easy to use. The goal was to create a balance between function and aesthetics, resulting in a minimalistic and elegant design.

What sets AFC apart is its ability to accommodate various items. In addition to hanging clothes, it provides hooks for hats, scarves, and bags. The design also includes a lower rail for hanging shoes, with a crossbar to prevent slipping. This multifunctional approach meets the everyday needs of individuals, allowing for easy organization and accessibility.

The AFC garderobe is made of round stainless steel and features a wooden board for added functionality. The production process involves bending and welding the steel to create the structure. The dimensions of the garderobe are 800 x 410 x 1600 mm, while the wood board measures 840 x 310 x 7 mm.

With its minimalistic design and stable construction, AFC fits seamlessly into any interior. It offers customers a range of colors to choose from, catering to different preferences and styles. The clean lines and unobtrusive form make AFC an elegant addition to any living space.

Operating AFC is simple and intuitive. The two crossbars above the garderobe allow for easy organization of clothes, with the front rail positioned higher for shorter items and the rear rail lower for color-coded or seasonal clothing. The "ears" on the sides can be used to hang hats, bags, and other accessories. The lower section of the garderobe provides a designated space for shoes, ensuring they stay in place.

The AFC project began in October 2016 and was completed in February 2017 in Darmstadt. The design process involved extensive research into people's daily wear and the integration of various functions. The challenge was to create a practical design that balanced aesthetics, function, and construction. The result is a garderobe that combines simplicity, practicality, and elegance.

Yue Wang's AFC garderobe has been recognized for its innovative design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2019. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life. AFC stands as a testament to the fusion of art, science, design, and technology.
