Yoondesign Identity: Redefining Brand Design

Award-winning design that explores the link between font design, contents, and branding

The Yoondesign Identity project, created by Sunghoon Kim and Chi-young Choi, is a pioneering venture that redefines the realm of brand design. Inspired by the expansion of shapes and colors, this design aims to express the will of change and flexibility.

A pioneer in digital font design since 1989, Yoondesign has embarked on a new platform that delves into the connection between font design, contents, and brands. With their renewed identity, they position themselves as a specialist group, aiming to broaden the spectrum of design.

The Yoondesign Identity concept begins with a triangle, where each apex represents the relationship between typeface design, contents, and branding. This triangle then expands into a polygon and eventually forms a circle, symbolizing their flexibility to adapt and change based on a variable graphic motif.

Utilizing black and white as the embodiment of light and pigment color primaries, Yoondesign freely incorporates colors and graphic motifs to suit each medium. This approach allows for a dynamic and adaptable visual identity that resonates with their audience.

The Yoondesign Identity not only offers professional typefaces but also showcases the value of extended typeface design. By developing relationships between contents and brands through the application of their redesigned identity, users can experience a holistic design experience.

This project, which took place in Seoul, South Korea, spanned from April 2017 to April 2018. Throughout the process, Yoondesign faced the challenge of transitioning from a traditional font design company to a future-oriented design firm. The renewal of their identity was a crucial step in regaining their forward-thinking image and expanding their design domain.

The Yoondesign Identity project has garnered recognition and acclaim, including the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.

With their innovative approach to brand design, Yoondesign has successfully redefined the boundaries of font design and established themselves as a leading force in the industry.
