When it comes to English language learning, one of the most challenging aspects for students is improving their listening skills. To address this issue, designers Jaehun Kim and Younghyun Kim developed the innovative Listening Workbook Deud-Gi. Inspired by the sound leaking out of headsets, this unique design aims to lessen the burden of English listening study and make it an enjoyable and effective experience for students.
The Listening Workbook Deud-Gi stands out from traditional textbooks by providing various real tests and customized MP3 files conveniently. It prepares students for school exams and English listening tests conducted by offices of education nationwide. With features like dictation, problem-solving by question, and quick listening exercises, it not only improves listening skills but also enables students to prepare for school exams simultaneously.
The design of the Listening Workbook Deud-Gi reflects the designers' intention to build confidence and create a positive image of improved listening ability. The use of dark colors and restrained graphics instills a sense of seriousness and focus, while the incorporation of neon colors adds a powerful contrast and impact. Typographical elements and lines convey the message of "hearing more and better," emphasizing the importance of active listening.
Efforts were made to ensure that the Listening Workbook Deud-Gi is both effective and visually appealing. The designers studied effective and fun expression methods, utilizing laminating techniques and matte coating paper to enhance durability and aesthetics. The result is a simple and modern design that captures the essence of the product concept.
The Listening Workbook Deud-Gi measures W 210mm * D 297mm * H 15mm and is specifically designed for middle school students. It underwent lamination and matte post-processing to ensure a high-quality finish.
Throughout the design process, the team faced the challenge of expressing their unique concept through the headset motif, which symbolizes the nature of listening materials. After numerous attempts, they successfully translated the wavelength of sound into graphics, creating a rhythmic representation that embraces the positive message of extension.
The Listening Workbook Deud-Gi was developed in Seoul, starting in April 2018 and completed in August 2018. The designers conducted extensive research to find ways to make studying feel fun while reducing the burden of tests. By creating a friendly and approachable learning tool, they aimed to help students develop overall language confidence.
The Listening Workbook Deud-Gi has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Education, Teaching Aid, and Training Content Design category in 2019. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.
The Listening Workbook Deud-Gi is a testament to the designers' dedication to enhancing the English language learning experience. By combining functionality, aesthetics, and a unique approach, this design offers students an engaging and effective tool to improve their listening skills and achieve academic success.
