Residence of Hung

Designing a Leisurely Holiday Feeling

The residence is the internal looks of the urban space. The highly-dense urban development of Taiwan has sparked the diverse imagination for a residence. It is one of the issues how to upgrade the living space efficiency. The house owners of this project are a young couple. They hope to create a leisurely holiday feeling in the living space. We build the broad public field, open kitchen, user-friendly flow arrangement, and high functions, and at the same time keep the privacy of staying alone.

The Residence of Hung, designed by Benson Wu, is a unique and innovative residential house that aims to create a leisurely holiday feeling for its occupants. Situated in the highly-dense urban development of Taiwan, this project addresses the challenge of upgrading living space efficiency while maintaining privacy.

The design features a broad public field, an open kitchen, and a user-friendly flow arrangement. These elements not only enhance the functionality of the space but also create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The house owners, a young couple, wanted a home that would allow them to entertain friends and relatives comfortably. To meet this need, the multi-functional study room is equipped with a glass partition that can be opened to expand the public space to accommodate more than 15 people without feeling crowded.

The interior of the residence showcases an industrial style with a touch of vintage and country elements. The use of red brick walls and barn-style shoe cabinets adds a sense of laziness and nostalgia. The wood pattern and concrete floors connect the living room and study room, creating a seamless transition between the two spaces.

The design also pays attention to the use of colors to define different areas within the residence. The living room features a red-brick wall, while the multi-functional study room is painted green. The kitchen island, made of blue brick, encircles the kitchen and dining area, adding a lively and splendid characteristic to the industrial style. Succulent plants are strategically placed throughout the house, creating a harmonious relationship between man and nature.

In terms of construction challenges, the irregular cross sections of the old bricks required careful comparisons and arrangements. The design of the shelf in the multi-functional room also posed a technical challenge, as the original iron pieces had penetrated the wooden works, necessitating the addition of a ladder structure and reinforcement of the wall support.

The Residence of Hung was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 for its outstanding and creatively ingenious design. This prestigious award recognizes designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to quality of life improvements. The design of the Residence of Hung exemplifies these qualities, making it a truly remarkable and innovative residential space.
