Transition: A Harmonious Blend of Art and Interior Design

Exploring the Unique Aesthetic of I-Chen Ko and Lin-Jun-Xian's Award-Winning Residential Design

Transition, a residential interior design project by I-Chen Ko and Lin-Jun-Xian, is a unique blend of art and architecture. Nestled in Guan Mountain, the design provides a calming space for the homeowners, reflecting a transition from the hustle and bustle of daily life to a serene environment. This article explores the inspiration, unique properties, and realization technology behind this award-winning design.

The inspiration for Transition came from the geographical location of the home. The designers wanted to create a space that would bring calm and peace to the homeowners. As one approaches the home, the clouds and mists of the mountain become thicker, mirroring the transition aisle created in the home. This aisle serves as a metaphor for the changing mindset of the homeowners as they enter their private living space.

What sets Transition apart from other designs is its spatial aesthetics. The designers built this as the second layer of perception, with the residents and their art collection serving as the first layer of visual focus. The design thus becomes a backdrop, enhancing the beauty of the residents and their art.

The realization of Transition involved the use of simple light-colored texture floor tiles in the public space, setting off the Montmartre-grey antique marble on the television wall. The wall utilized different width carving to create a fence-lines effect, edged with delicate moulding. This created a simple but elegant artistic atmosphere. The open design made the study room no longer closed, and the bronze-gold showcases allowed the couple to decorate the space with their own collections.

The design also features a corridor leading to the dining room, created to resemble a hotel lobby. The use of bronze-gold gives an uncommon visual effect, connecting with the sunlight from the study room and reflection from the ceiling lamp in the dining room. This implies a transition from the main space to the private space. The rose color sets off the elegance of the showcase in the dining room, and the storage room is cleverly hidden by a white wall, meeting the owner’s multiple requirements.

Transition was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. The award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, strong technical characteristics, and splendid artistic skill. Transition certainly fits these criteria, providing a unique blend of art and architecture that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

In conclusion, Transition is a testament to the creative prowess of I-Chen Ko and Lin-Jun-Xian. The design beautifully blends art and architecture, creating a calming space that transitions the homeowners from the hustle and bustle of daily life to a serene environment. With its unique aesthetic and innovative design, Transition is a deserving winner of the Silver A' Design Award.
