Transyware: Redefining In-Flight Dining Experience

An Eco-Friendly and User-Friendly Solution

Transyware is a set of new in-flight food service ware designed by Sharon Leung, aiming to create a better dining and user experience for passengers and flight attendants. By reducing single-use packaging and materials, Transyware provides a clear and efficient dining flow, enhancing the overall in-flight experience.

Based on extensive research and feedback from passengers and flight attendants, Transyware addresses the common challenges faced during in-flight dining. Passengers often struggle with limited space to place plastic packaging, while flight attendants face difficulties in meeting passengers' meal preferences. To tackle these issues, Transyware offers a range of innovative features.

One of the key strengths of Transyware is its eco-friendly design. By minimizing the use of single-use packaging and materials, it significantly reduces waste generated during in-flight meals. The main material used, Tritan, is a BPA-free and dishwasher-safe material that offers high clarity and durability, providing a pleasant and transparent dining experience.

The tray size of Transyware is carefully designed to fit the dimensions of a service trolley, ensuring compatibility with existing catering systems. This allows airlines and catering service companies to accurately prepare the required number of meals for each flight, reducing food wastage and enhancing operational efficiency.

Transyware also incorporates an advanced online booking system that allows passengers to pre-select their meal preferences. This feature enables airlines to better cater to passengers' preferences and ensures a smoother dining experience. Flight attendants can access this information through upgraded service trolleys, increasing service efficiency and reducing errors.

The dining flow with Transyware is intuitive and user-friendly. Passengers can start with their pre-selected meal option, enjoying their bread first. The small plate can then be turned upright and placed into a slot, allowing passengers to enjoy the salad and dessert underneath. This clear and organized flow eliminates the struggle of placing plastic packaging and enhances the overall dining experience.

The Transyware project was initiated in September 2017 in Hong Kong and completed in May 2018. It was exhibited in the PolyU Design Annual Show 2018 in June, showcasing its innovative approach to in-flight dining. The design has received accolades, including the Bronze A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design category in 2019.
