Lucky Plate: A Multifunctional Ware with a Touch of Luck

Bringing Luck, Auspice, and Love to the Dining Table

The lucky plate is a set of plates that endow clover the meaning of luck, auspice, and love. This innovative plate design combines emotions and good taste, creating a unique dining experience. With its simple yet elegant design, the lucky plate symbolizes "gentleness" and "vitality" while amplifying the social significance of grouped dining behind food culture.

In Chinese tradition, the concept of the lucky plate derives from the figure of the "four-leaf clover," which represents hope, giving, love, and happiness. This exquisite set of four-leaf clover dinner plates is not only visually appealing but also highly functional in the modern food industry. Unlike traditional plates, the lucky plate's flexible design prevents sauce from dripping, ensuring a mess-free dining experience.

The production of this unique set of products took place in Jingdezhen, a city with a millennium of ceramic culture and history. Crafted from high-temperature and environmentally friendly porcelain, the lucky plate is safe, non-toxic, and microwave oven-friendly. The production process involves meticulous material selection, molding, glazing, and burning, showcasing the rich heritage of Jingdezhen ceramic culture and traditional Chinese aesthetics.

Measuring 24.0cm wide, 24.0cm high, and 3.0cm high temperature, the lucky plate is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. Its design not only enhances the dining experience but also promotes good table manners. The plate features four grooves located on the edge, allowing cutlery to be placed in them after a meal. This prevents cutlery from dirtying hands or other exposed parts, promoting cleanliness and etiquette.

The lucky plate project, led by designer JiaYi Cai, involved a multidisciplinary team of designers, material engineers, and instructors. The team's extensive research and creative approach resulted in a design that seamlessly blends functionality, practicality, and aesthetics. The use of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Rhino3D NURBS aided in the preliminary design and modeling process.

Overcoming various challenges, such as deformation and cracking during the firing process, the team selected a clay with higher hardness to ensure the plate's durability and quality. The result is a stunning piece of tableware that adds a touch of luck and elegance to any dining setting.

The lucky plate project commenced in June 2018 in Macao and was completed in September 2018 in Jingdezhen, China. While it has not been exhibited yet, this design has already received recognition. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the lucky plate, which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology.

With its unique design and multifunctional features, the lucky plate is a testament to the fusion of tradition and innovation in the world of tableware. Whether used for everyday dining or special occasions, this exquisite piece adds a touch of luck and charm to every meal.
