Harmony in Cutlery: The Ingrede Set by Matthew Dorabiala

Award-winning design redefines the place of cutlery in the dining experience

Matthew Dorabiala's Ingrede cutlery set, a harmonious blend of form and function, stands as a testament to the designer's pursuit of perfection in everyday life. This unique design, inspired by nature's harmony and mathematical shapes, has earned the prestigious Silver A' Design Award.

Matthew Dorabiala, the designer behind the Ingrede cutlery set, found inspiration in nature's harmony and the seamless intertwining of mathematics in the world around us. The design, a set of fork, spoon, and knife, slots together using magnets, standing vertically to bring a sense of order and harmony to the dining table. The design's unique properties lie in its ability to transform everyday cutlery into a sculptural piece that adds an aesthetic appeal to the dining experience.

The Ingrede set, handcrafted from stainless steel, offers practicality and efficiency. Its new shape enhances the dining experience, with four peaks for effective sticking of hard materials and enlarged curved surfaces for a more pleasant experience with fish, soft dishes, and sauces. The cutlery set stands at a height of 170mm x 40mm when folded, using a magnet mechanism for locking.

The design process, which began in September 2018 in Manchester, UK, and concluded in January 2019, was not without its challenges. Dorabiala sought to redefine the concept of cutlery, a bold move considering the sculptural look of the piece. The design caters to a minority need and aesthetic aspect of design, a departure from the mass production approach often seen in cutlery design.

The Ingrede cutlery set was exhibited at the craft center Manchester exhibition and a student internal exhibition. The design's unique properties and aesthetic appeal have earned it the Silver A' Design Award, a prestigious accolade awarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.

In conclusion, Matthew Dorabiala's Ingrede cutlery set is more than just a set of dining utensils. It is a testament to the designer's pursuit of perfection, a harmonious blend of form and function that redefines the place of cutlery in the dining experience. This unique approach to design opens up new possibilities that can be applied to many different products such as tableware and other utensils designs.
