Vancouver Villa on Angus

A Timeless Blend of Luxury and Elegance

Inspired by High-End Italian Fashion, Carol Faan Creates a Custom Built Residence

Carol Faan, a renowned designer, has brought the extravagant lifestyles of seventeenth-century royalty into the modern era with her latest creation, the Vancouver Villa on Angus. This residential home is a testament to the fusion of classic Baroque and traditional European design elements with meticulous touches of modern creativity. The result is a space that not only exudes luxury but also offers functionality for long-term living.

With a lot size of 26,500 square feet and a built-up area of 14,000 square feet, the Vancouver Villa on Angus stands as a detached three-story single-family house in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Its grandeur is immediately evident upon entering, with an ambiance rooted in high-end and formal stature. However, as guests transition from room to room, they experience a seamless journey from the classically designed formal spaces on the main floor to the high-spirited lower floor with modern accents for entertainment. Finally, they reach the upper floor, which strikes a balance between opulence and practicality, offering a luxurious yet comfortable private living space.

One of the standout features of the Vancouver Villa on Angus is the incorporation of Chinoiserie elements throughout the design. In the powder room, an églomisé technique is used to present hand-painted florals and birds on the backside of glass. This technique not only creates visual depth but also ensures extended durability by sealing the artwork between layered glass. Chinoiserie influence is also evident in the hand-carved Baroque mirror frame of the powder room, the accent wall panels of the formal dining room, and the remarkable peacock mural in the hallway.

Overcoming challenges posed by the architectural design's irregular ceilings in the foyer area, Carol Faan ensured that the proportions and scale of the Baroque carvings, custom chandelier, and accompanying elements were all in harmony with their surroundings. This attention to detail is a testament to the designer's commitment to creating a cohesive and visually stunning space.

Another notable aspect of the Vancouver Villa on Angus is the transformation of the theater room into a multi-functional space. To achieve this, a local artist was commissioned to experiment with various oil and acrylic paints on a specially created paintable screen canvas. The result is a room that can be used for both movie screenings and as an eye-catching art display when not in use.

The Vancouver Villa on Angus has garnered recognition for its exceptional design. In 2019, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Luxury Design category. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.

The Vancouver Villa on Angus is a testament to Carol Faan's ability to blend classic design elements with modern creativity, resulting in a timeless creation that exudes elegance and luxury. It is a true representation of the clients' own personal design label, bringing their appreciation for high-end Italian fashion to life in a custom-built residence.
