Jian Wang's design inspiration stems from the flowing river water and the evolution of ancient city wall bricks. The ceiling, reminiscent of the majestic Yangtze River, showcases the rich variations of water waves through an arc-shaped dynamic photosensitive zone. This artistic representation of natural elements within the restaurant's design adds a unique dimension to the dining experience.
The restaurant's design is characterized by its simplicity, elegance, and liveliness, mirroring the building's overall style. The irregular quadrilateral walls on both sides reflect the vitality and change of movement, creating a dynamic atmosphere. The clever use of light and shade further enhances the unique dining ambiance, making it a standout feature of the restaurant.
Constructed using materials such as GRG, wood grain stone, wood veneer, metal fluorocarbon paint, glass, latex paint, transparent film, and epoxy terrazzo, the restaurant is a testament to the innovative use of diverse materials in modern design. Covering an area of about 1500 square meters, the restaurant is located on the fifth floor of the Youth Olympic Conference Center.
The design process, which spanned from May 2016 to September 2017, presented several challenges. The design team had to ensure that the restaurant's design was in harmony with the main building's style and function. Additionally, the design had to resonate with the local cultural landscape and align with the Olympic theme. Despite these challenges, the team successfully created a design that is both modern and deeply rooted in tradition.
Through meticulous research and careful planning, the design team created a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also energy-efficient and human-oriented. The perfect blend of natural and artificial light, coupled with the thoughtful use of acoustic environment, makes the restaurant a perfect example of modern, international, and artistic space.
The Nanjing Youth Olympic Center Restaurant, with its unique design and innovative use of space, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This award is a testament to the design's outstanding expertise and innovation, further cementing Jian Wang's reputation as a leading figure in the world of design.
