The main feature of Hanuri is the incorporation of the surrounding cityscape through the sash on the entire wall. By not erecting a high wall on the window side, the restaurant allows visitors to admire a panoramic night view. The space is divided into private rooms, counters, sofas, and booths partitioned by low dividers, ensuring a sense of privacy while still maintaining a connection to the surroundings.
To create a sense of unlimited space, the furniture, such as sofas and partitions, and walls are set as low as possible. This eliminates the feeling of a low ceiling and enhances the overall spaciousness of the restaurant. The design also incorporates intentional curves into the linear structure, creating a balanced and sophisticated composition.
The color scheme of Hanuri is inspired by traditional Korean costumes. Reds, blues, and greens are intentionally blended into the design, adding vibrancy and visual interest. The pendant lightings, in particular, bear these colors and are strategically placed in the center of the restaurant. The upper end of the glass becomes transparent, allowing the lights to blend seamlessly into the surroundings.
Technically, the design of Hanuri utilizes gradient glass pendant lights in red, green, and purple, as well as materials such as plaster, oak, and tile. The restaurant spans 120 square meters and can accommodate up to 56 seats, providing ample space for diners to enjoy their meals.
Hanuri, located in Shimbashi, Tokyo, Japan, was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award recognizes the restaurant's well-designed, practical, and innovative interior space. The design of Hanuri successfully integrates East Asian architectural elements with modern sensibilities, creating a dining experience that is both visually captivating and comfortable for patrons.
Yousuke Yamada and the H I Design Inc. team have overcome creative and technical challenges to bring Hanuri to life. The addition of intentional curves to the linear structure, the careful selection of materials, and the incorporation of the surrounding cityscape all contribute to the restaurant's unique and inviting atmosphere.
Experience the fusion of East Asian aesthetics and modern sophistication at Hanuri, where traditional elements meet contemporary design in a harmonious blend.
