Honoring History Through Design: Omdesign's Honore Douro Packaging

Combining Tradition and Innovation in Wine Packaging

The inspiration for the Honore Douro packaging comes from the Douro valley itself, where Quinta do Crasto has been producing wines for over 400 years. The design mirrors the landscape of the valley and the schist, a typical rock of the Douro soil. The packaging is a tribute to the men and women who have worked tirelessly over the centuries to cultivate the vineyards and create the exceptional wines of Quinta do Crasto.

What sets this packaging apart is its unique blend of tradition and innovation. Omdesign has created a special edition of 1615 magnum bottles of an exceptional blend of Vinha Maria Teresa and Vinha da Ponte, the two most prestigious Quinta do Crasto wines. The exterior packaging is made from valchromat, a material that resembles the schist of the Douro soil. Inside, there is a sample of the book of Quinta do Crasto and a magnum bottle of Honore Douro.

The bottle label features a resin frame and lines whose relief illustrates the geography and terrace of Douro. The packaging is designed to be interactive, with specific elements chosen to reflect the uniqueness of Quinta do Crasto. The black tones of the valchromat and the gorgeous pictures in the book remind us of the schist, a typical rock of the Douro soil.

The design project, which began in 2015 in Porto, Portugal, and was completed in December 2019, faced the challenge of creating a differentiating packaging that could perpetuate more than 4 centuries of Quinta do Crasto history and mirror their identity and values. The result is a packaging that not only reflects the brand's rich history but also its commitment to innovation and sustainability.

For its outstanding design, the Honore Douro packaging was awarded Silver in A' Packaging Design Award in 2019. The award is a testament to Omdesign's creativity, professional expertise, and innovation. The design is admired for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
