The Violinist's Home is a residential condo that showcases the creative vision of MYHA architects. What sets this design apart is the use of mathematical geometry to create a quiet and elegant two-tone veneer that adds a feminine touch. The concise accent wall and soft-colored curtains guide the afternoon sun, outlining a simple and comfortable life.
One of the standout features of this design is the multi-function display cabinet that can be pushed and pulled. It provides a private stage for the homeowner to practice her violin and showcases the family's dreams. The entire project minimizes excessive decoration, focusing on good maintenance, light decoration, waste reduction, and environmentally friendly green building practices.
The materials used in the Violinist's Home are carefully selected to align with the latest green building carbon footprint concept. The veneer materials and furniture are sourced from factories within a 20-kilometer radius of the project, reducing transportation emissions and supporting local businesses.
Technologically, the design incorporates system cabinets, natural veneer, woodwork, custom furniture, recyclable iron, dust-free blackboards, and non-toxic paint. These choices not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also contribute to the overall sustainability of the space.
The Violinist's Home spans a total floor area of 60 square meters, making the most of the available space to create a functional and visually appealing environment. The design team, led by Ming-Yi Hsu and Szu-Ying Liu, worked closely with the homeowners, who are music enthusiasts and avid violin players. Through constant communication and the use of 3D drawings, the design was tailored to meet the specific needs and living habits of the clients.
The completion of this project brought great satisfaction to the homeowners, who now enjoy a creative and personalized home space that reflects their passion for music. The Violinist's Home stands as a testament to the successful integration of green building principles, innovative functional furniture, and a limited budget.
Located in Taoyuan, Taiwan, the Violinist's Home was completed in 2018. The design process involved extensive research, particularly in the field of mathematical geometry. By considering efficient cutting sizes, ergonomics, aesthetics, and the owner's collection, the design team established a foundation based on the maximum finger width of the owner's palm, 20 cm. Symmetry, rotation, and proportionality were then employed to bring the design to life.
This project has garnered recognition in the design community and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019. The award acknowledges the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of the Violinist's Home. It highlights the integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and a contribution to a better world.
