DeAngelis, a hand-made Italian chocolate brand, sought to enter the UK market with a new range of exclusive packaging. The goal was to create a brand identity that reflected the sophistication and elegance of the chocolate itself. The textures and flavors experienced when consuming the chocolate bars served as inspiration for the packaging design.
The DeAngelis chocolate bars are individually wrapped in glassine paper, adding a subtle yet tactile element to the packaging. Each bar is then finished with a hand-tied black satin bow and a high-gloss flavor indicating tag. The bars are packaged in singles, threes, and fives within a rigid, hand-made card box covered in luxurious black Winter & Company Kashgar fabric paper. The box features a white silk screen printed DeAngelis brand logo and a copper foiled blocked Pure Dark & Italian strapline, elevating the brand for the high-end exclusive market.
The technical specifications of the packaging include a chocolate bar size of 56mm width, 15mm depth, and 15mm height. The single box size measures 148mm width, 36mm depth, and 66mm height. The three box size measures 174mm width, 36mm depth, and 148mm height. Lastly, the five box size measures 284mm width, 36mm depth, and 148mm height.
The design of the DeAngelis Italian Chocolate Packaging aims to create a sensory journey for the consumer. Opening the box is a deliberate unveiling process, gradually revealing the luxurious and hand-crafted chocolate bars. The combination of smooth, textured, matte, and glossy surfaces simulates the experience of consuming the chocolate.
The project took six months to complete and was produced in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. During the design process, the team at Kre8ive Partners conducted research on traditional Italian chocolate packaging and studied the luxury chocolate market to ensure the brand and packaging aligned with the high-end positioning of the product.
The DeAngelis Italian Chocolate Packaging has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019, which honors well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. This award acknowledges the packaging's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and contribution to a better world.
