The Shattered Holiness: A Cinematic Masterpiece

Reviving Shanghai's Film History Through Innovative Design

The Shattered Holiness is a two-story structure covering 4070 square meters, housing eight movie-showing chambers. Each chamber is designed through continuous shatterization of existing pieces, creating a multitude of spaces. This design concept aims to destroy the completeness of a space, demonstrating the jumps and leaps in dimensions and time, vividly re-showing real life and reviving impressions now survived in the memories of the involved.

Located in Shanghai, the project was completed in October 2018. The cinema's design is inspired by Shanghai's transformation from the Orient nocturnal Paris to the magical capital it is today. Shanghai's original features, branded as Shanghai style, have left an unforgettable impression on people through the movies produced here.

The Shattered Holiness is more than just a cinema; it's an interactive experience. Visitors might find themselves mirrored in the reflective landscape through touring the continuously changing segments of the construction. They will easily realize that they are reshaped and scripted in the kaleidoscopic scape, with their mirrored images moving, streaming, even interloping and becoming opaque, or all of a sudden eloping away.

The designers faced creative, technical, and research challenges in realizing this project. They created an eye-catching monument at the cinema's entrance, symbolizing the passion to bravely destroy the unbearable and intolerable reality. The broken pieces are deliberately arranged to mirror light beams splashing across the dead frozen black voidness, picturing themselves as thinking trajectories x-raying far off chaotically and randomly to a vast public space.

The Shattered Holiness has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
