BOQ: A Ballet of Champagne Service

Patrick Sarran's Award-Winning Champagne Trolley Design

Patrick Sarran's BOQ, an innovative champagne trolley, transforms the art of champagne service into a ballet. The design, a winner of the prestigious A' Furniture Design Award in 2019, is a testament to Sarran's commitment to elegance, functionality, and a harmonious interaction between form and function.

BOQ's design inspiration comes from the standard champagne flutes used by restaurateurs. Arranged in a corolla, the flutes become an integral part of the trolley's design. Sarran's aim was to make the service gesture a ballet, creating a trolley that is easy to use, quiet, and at the right height. The design is primarily intended to please the waiter, serving as a stage accessory for them.

What sets BOQ apart from other champagne trolleys is its elegance, strength, and practicality. It also saves space, a feature much appreciated by restaurant owners and Champagne brands worldwide. The design's unique properties lie in its waterproof Krion resin tray, which is insensitive to the corrosive effect of champagne. The arched legs and the molded beech crown ensure the rigidity of the whole structure. Furthermore, the cushion covered with unbreakable stain-resistant fabric and the polycarbonate comb hold the flutes with a protective spring effect.

The trolley is designed to be used in self-service as well as in conventional service. The flexible way of hanging the flutes protects them from shocks and prevents them from clinking. The design was realized from August to end of September 2016 in Patrick Sarran's workshop at Toulouse. The balance between beauty and efficiency required many adjustments, reflecting the challenges overcome in the design process.

BOQ is more than just a champagne trolley. It is an ice bath trolley for serving champagne at receptions, made of wood, metal, resin, and glass. The circular symmetry organizes objects and materials as an integral part of the design. Standard flutes are stowed in corolla, head down, under a white resin tray, protected from dust and shocks. The composition, almost floral, invites the guests to form a circle to taste the precious drink. However, its primary role is to be an effective stage accessory for the waiter.

BOQ's design is a testament to Patrick Sarran's commitment to innovation and design excellence. The design was awarded Silver in A' Furniture Design Award in 2019, a recognition given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. With its unique properties and innovative design, BOQ is set to redefine the art of champagne service.
