Sailing on the Ocean: A Masterpiece of Residential Design

Clement Tung Jeun Cheng's Award-Winning Design Marries Luxury and Craftsmanship

In this article, we delve into the unique design of "Sailing on the Ocean", a residential house designed by Clement Tung Jeun Cheng. The design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, is a testament to Cheng's extraordinary contemporary craftsmanship and skill.

The inspiration for "Sailing on the Ocean" was derived from the desire to sustain visual aesthetics through sophisticated lines. The main color scheme of zero-chroma colors, including white, black, gray, and luminosity, displays the authenticity of materials. This palette is reminiscent of a cruise cabin, evoking the fascinating allure of Titanic sailing on the ocean.

What sets this design apart is its extravagant beauty manifested through extraordinary contemporary craftsmanship. The divergent variations of lines, neat yet glamorous, are constructed in the three-dimensional space of walls and ceilings. This residence, which adjoins the river, is a testament to Cheng's ability to create a unique and luxurious living space.

The realization of this design was achieved through comprehensive furnishing of marbles in the house. The decoration consolidates black granites, iron lightings, and natural materials, manifesting the beauty of materials with contemporary design skills. The Chinese-style screens symmetrically adorned on the wall behind the sofa develop a classical glamour in the modern space.

Despite the design challenges, Cheng managed to create a harmonious space. The dining room decorated with the “circular element” contrasts with the square element ornamented in the living room. The round dining table and the Chinese lantern style ceiling lamps advocate the concepts of perfection and harmony. The indirect lighting is soft and calm, and the wall decorated with the wine cabinet and many storage cabinets effectively utilizes the wall space, strengthening the clear-cut style.

The design was completed in December 2018 in Macau. The space, measuring 200 square meters, is a testament to Cheng's ability to refine given space conditions. The tidy lines decorated in the private area are applied in the study room and bathroom, where the contrast of bright and dark colors highlights the delicate quality of space. The dressing room, in the master bedroom, artistically resembles a ship cabin, enhancing the imagination to the cruise.

In conclusion, "Sailing on the Ocean" is a design that combines luxury and craftsmanship. It is a testament to Clement Tung Jeun Cheng's extraordinary skill and creativity. The design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, is a testament to Cheng's commitment to creating unique and luxurious living spaces.
