GLA-Design's Mobile Living Hall: A New Chapter in Temporary Construction

Revolutionizing the Concept of Temporary Living and Exhibition Spaces

GLA-Design's innovative "Mobile Living Hall" project, inspired by the Mongolian yurts, brings a fresh perspective to temporary construction by combining aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. This award-winning design has been recognized for its unique properties and the efficient use of technology in its realization.

The "Mobile Living Hall" project, located in Changshu, Jiangsu, is a testament to GLA-Design's commitment to innovative design and sustainability. The project was inspired by the Mongolian yurts, offering a living space that can be disassembled, moved, and re-constructed. The design's uniqueness lies in its componentization, allowing for the reuse of materials and equipment. The curtain wall of the living hall has a reusable rate of up to 90%, with up to 85% reusable rate for indoor decoration, and an overall comprehensive reusable rate of 70%.

The design's strength lies in its careful consideration of aesthetics and practicality. The modules of horizontal and vertical planes were selected based not only on aesthetic considerations but also on the convenience and cost efficiency for manufacturing, shipping, and constructing the curtain wall. This approach minimizes waste and ensures convenient transport and easy construction.

The realization of the "Mobile Living Hall" project was made possible through purely component-based construction. This includes a fully bolted steel structure, detachable cellular curtain walls, a glass roof with cellular sheets, a floor based on steel grating plates, and light-steel structural partition walls. This method allows for fully industrialized and fabricated construction and manufacturing, significantly accelerating construction progress.

The design's technical specifications further highlight its innovative approach. With a gross built area of 1200 square meters, the "Mobile Living Hall" project embodies the principles of mobility, standardization, aesthetics, reuse, and industrialization. The design's interaction is reminiscent of the Mongolian yurts, offering a living space that can be disassembled, moved, and re-constructed.

The project, which started in 2017 and finished in 2018, was a result of extensive research and creative problem-solving. The design team faced the challenge of balancing the proportion between standardized dimensions and aesthetics, and achieving harmony between fabricated components and styles. The result is a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and sustainable.

The "Mobile Living Hall" project by GLA-Design is a testament to the power of innovative design in transforming the way we think about temporary living and exhibition spaces. The project's success is reflected in its recognition as a Golden A' Design Award winner in 2019, a prestigious award granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology.
