The Soul of Maotai Flavour Wu: A Masterpiece in Packaging Design

Li Zuo's Award-Winning Design Captures the Essence of Maotai

The inspiration behind "The Soul of Maotai Flavour Wu" lies in the unique brewing technique of Maotai flavour liquor. This process involves a year of brewing, two rounds of grain addition, nine cooking sessions, eight fermentation periods, seven liquor extractions, and five years of storage. The final product is a blend of seven rounds of liquor, a process that combines technology and art. Li Zuo's design encapsulates this complexity in a simple, elegant package.

The design's unique properties lie in its representation of the Maotai flavour's essence. The bottle takes the shape of a liquor drop, symbolizing the essence of the Maotai flavour. The bottle body is glazed, the logo is gilded, and the outer box is made of precious wood with a water grain pattern. This design not only represents the luxury of the product but also allows consumers to understand the essence of the product.

The realization of this design involved the use of wood carved glass molds. The technical specifications of the design are 260 mm in width, 140 mm in depth, and 300 mm in height. The design was conceptualized and completed in Guangzhou between November 2018 and February 2019 and was listed in Guizhou in May 2019.

Li Zuo's research for this design involved studying the water form deduced by wood and developing water drop bottles by glass. This research, combined with Li Zuo's creative and design expertise, resulted in a design that is not only visually appealing but also meaningful and representative of the product it contains.

The "Soul of Maotai Flavour Wu" design has been recognized for its excellence with a Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2020. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. Li Zuo's design certainly fits this description, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
