Basalt: A Harmonious Blend of Ancient and Modern Architecture

Aamer Qaisiyah's Award-Winning Design Marries Roman Inspiration with Contemporary Comfort

The Basalt house is situated in the southern part of the Syrian Arab Republic, nestled amid a dense forest of oaks and elevated over 1100 meters above sea level. The house's design is a harmonious blend of past and present, combining the simplicity and grandeur of ancient architecture with the sharp angles and distinct materials of modern design. The use of basalt stone and oak wood pays homage to the region's historical era while introducing a fresh, creative perspective.

Qaisiyah's design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and durable. The house's outer walls are constructed with double concrete blocks and covered with natural basalt stones, ensuring resistance to unpredictable weather conditions. Large windows are incorporated to maximize natural light, and a double glazing thermal brake aluminum system is used for insulation. The house also features water refining and solar systems, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable living.

The Basalt house spans an area of 1065 m2, with each of its three floors measuring 355 m2. The design is equipped with a unique automation system, providing the owner with control over various aspects of the house, including lighting, rolling shutters, boilers, heating and air-conditioning, and the security system. This integration of technology enhances the comfort and convenience of the living space.

The design process began in March 2019 in Kuwait and was completed by June of the same year. The execution of the project started in August 2020 in Syria. The main challenge faced by Qaisiyah was to seamlessly blend the popular architecture of southern Syria under the Roman Empire with today's simple, comfortable, and creative design. This required extensive research, including internet sources and firsthand observations of designs in his hometown in southern Syria.

The Basalt house is not just a home; it's a sanctuary. Its design exudes elegance and comfort, with oak wood features and windows that flood the space with sunlight. The house's serene ambiance, coupled with the surrounding natural beauty, offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. This remarkable design has earned Qaisiyah the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2020, a prestigious accolade that recognizes outstanding expertise and innovation in design.
