Spicing Up Social Media: DIY Spice Blends

Lize-Marie Swan's Award-Winning Design for Unilever Food Solutions

In a unique blend of culinary artistry and digital marketing, Lize-Marie Swan has created a visually striking social media campaign for Unilever Food Solutions. The campaign, centered around DIY Spice Blends, has garnered international recognition, earning a Silver A' Design Award in 2020.

Swan's inspiration for the designs came directly from the names of the spice blend recipes. Each image was meticulously crafted by brushing various spice ingredients together, creating 11 eye-catching designs that not only visually appeal but also stimulate the senses. The designs were part of a Facebook campaign titled "Our Journey, Your Discovery," where each week, a new Spice Blend was posted as a media-rich Facebook Canvas Post.

The uniqueness of the campaign lies in its use of the actual ingredients from each recipe, sourced from the Robertsons Spice Range. Each design was handcrafted, brushed, and composited on a black tile slate, and then captured with a DSLR camera in the studio. The final designs were approximately 500mmx500mm, digitized to an A4 layout for iPad use.

The campaign ran from 27 Jun 2017 to 14 Jun 2017 on the Unilever Food Solution SA Facebook page. Each of the recipes is also available for iPad download at the UFS.com website, further extending the reach and accessibility of the campaign.

Swan's design team included Copywriter/Art Director Lize-Marie Swan, Account Executives Cheila Madureira and Sarah Bartholomew. The team's combined efforts resulted in a campaign that effectively leveraged the power of social media to engage audiences, while also showcasing the versatility and creativity of the Robertsons Spice Range.

The A' Design Award, which the campaign won, is awarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The award is a testament to the campaign's strong technical characteristics, splendid artistic skill, and the positive feelings, amazement, and wonder it introduced to its audience.
