Proto Headquarter: A Rustic and Sedate Office Transformation

Emulating the natural criterion

The old house of 66 square meters transformed into a rustic and sedate office, inspired by the stonewalls of Mayan culture. Designer Wen Hsuan Tai aimed to create a space that peacefully coexists with the primitive features of the original structure while introducing ample sunlight and retaining the material's original texture.

The Proto Headquarter, designed by Wen Hsuan Tai, stands out as a unique office space that combines rustic charm with a serene ambiance. The transformation of the old house, spanning 66 square meters, showcases the designer's ability to reestablish solidity and geniality within a limited space. By following the natural precedent of functional configuration, the original building mass and texture are preserved, resulting in vivid patterns achieved through the twist and turn of the main axis. The use of deep and shallow tinge contrasting materials further enhances the overall aesthetic.

One of the key considerations in the realization of the Proto Headquarter was the selection of materials to highlight the distinct outline of the space. Rather than excessive decoration or disguise, the designer opted for a frank expression of the primitive features. The coarse texture of cement and steel structures, combined with the fine and glossy solid wood veneer, created a timeless phenomenon through the projection of light and shadow. The result is a space that exudes a sense of tranquility and timelessness.

With an area of 66.11 square meters, the Proto Headquarter showcases the designer's ability to transform a limited space into a functional and visually appealing office. The emphasis on natural elements, sedate hues, and human-centric design principles creates an atmosphere that fosters productivity and well-being. The cozy and inviting nature of the space ensures that both staff and guests feel a sense of warmth and comfort.

The Proto Headquarter project, which began in February 2019 and concluded in March 2019, is a testament to the meticulous research and attention to detail undertaken by Wen Hsuan Tai. By reorienting spatial nodes and illumination routes, the designer successfully constructed a space that is both visually captivating and highly functional. The challenges encountered during the early stages of construction were overcome by turning potential limitations into highlights, resulting in a space that is both amusing and inspiring.

The Proto Headquarter is a testament to the power of simplicity and the ability to create a profound impact through minimalistic design choices. By shaping spatial charm with gray-scale contrast hue materials, Wen Hsuan Tai has successfully demonstrated the original profound features of the space, creating a homespun and unbounded working area that is sure to inspire creativity and productivity.
