House S.Y.: A Treasure Chest of Dreams

A Unique Residential Home Designed by Osamu Hamada

The client needed a home that was comfortable and away from the hustle and bustle of the day. By slightly shifting boxes with different functions, we created a variety of spaces and created a house where you can relax and enjoy everyday life.

This house, known as House S.Y., can be described as a treasure chest for clients who have accumulated dreams of building a house for many years. Designed by Osamu Hamada, this residential home offers a unique and luxurious living experience.

One of the standout features of House S.Y. is its spacious garage and audio room, catering to clients with multiple hobbies such as cars, golf, and music. The garage can accommodate up to four cars and includes a two-post lift, allowing car enthusiasts to bring their vehicles into the audio room. Here, they can enjoy music while surrounded by their beloved cars.

The lighting equipment in House S.Y. adds another layer of uniqueness to the space. The color of the lighting can be changed to suit the mood of the day, creating a dynamic and vibrant atmosphere. This feature allows residents to personalize their living environment and enhance their overall experience.

Constructed on a steep slope, House S.Y. required careful consideration of earth retaining and structural integrity. The basement, primarily used as a garage, serves as a solid concrete retaining wall. This design choice ensures the stability of the house and supports the weight of the two-story wooden structure.

With a site area of 365.1m2 and a total floor area of 453.54m2, House S.Y. offers ample space for comfortable living. The exterior walls are finished with dry board and spray finish, while the roof is made of galvalume steel plate. Inside, the plaster finish creates a clean and modern aesthetic, complemented by teak flooring.

House S.Y. was designed by Osamu Hamada in collaboration with TEKU MATE Architectural Design Office and constructed by Maeda Koumuten. The project, located in Nagoya-shi, Aichi-ken, Japan, started in February 2017 and was completed in April 2019.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2020. The award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of House S.Y., which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology. It is a testament to the technical and creative skills of the design team and their commitment to improving the quality of life.

House S.Y. is not just a white box; it is a manifestation of dreams and aspirations. Its unique design, shifting boxes, and variety of spaces offer residents a truly extraordinary living experience. With its luxurious features and attention to detail, House S.Y. is a testament to the power of design to create a relaxing and fulfilling lifestyle.
