Well Vision: An Innovative International Centre for Microscopic Education

Creating an Open-Minded Vision with Unique Design

Well Vision is an International Centre for microscopic education, designed by Chang Mei-Ching. Inspired by the iconic London Eye, this educational center serves as a landmark in Taichung, Taiwan, offering a vast landscape visible from its elevated position. With its unique building appearance, Well Vision stands out with slanted structures and a circular steel piece, creating an open-minded vision for its users.

Well Vision is specifically designed to cater to professional medical practitioners from around the world. The main wall and ceiling of the center are constructed with slanted structures and a circular steel piece, giving it a distinct and eye-catching look. This design choice not only adds to the aesthetic appeal but also enhances the overall experience of the users.

The center is divided into two main areas: the recreation area and the research zone. The recreation area serves as a composite space where researchers can exchange knowledge and relax at the bar. The L-shaped counter adds a delightful visual element to the space, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Moving inward, the modular research zone provides a dedicated space for focused work. Wooden shutters at the rear of the zone offer both privacy and a sense of openness.

One of the key considerations in the design of Well Vision was the comfort and safety of the users. To ensure a pleasant environment, the center is equipped with an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) that brings in fresh outdoor air and vents out indoor heat. This system helps maintain optimal air quality and energy efficiency. The ceiling, made of Denmark ROCKFON green building material, provides practical benefits such as moisture-proofing, soundproofing, and fire resistance.

Well Vision's design also takes into account the convenience and safety of the electrical circuits. All the circuits are carefully hidden in slots before laying the carpet, resulting in a neat and tidy appearance. This attention to detail enhances the overall aesthetic appeal of the center while ensuring a safe and efficient operation.

The design of Well Vision successfully combines functionality and aesthetics. The black steel piece and bright white diagonally braced steel beam structure create an international ambiance, while the appearance resembles that of a microscope, blending virtual and reality. The strategic use of lighting further enhances the space, with the recreation area designed to be cozy and relaxing, and the research zone brightly illuminated for clear visibility.

The project started in May 2017 and was completed in July 2017 in Taichung, Taiwan. The design team, led by Chang Mei-Ching, worked independently to bring this innovative educational center to life. The design has received recognition and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020, highlighting its practicality, innovation, and adherence to industry best practices.

Well Vision, with its unique design and focus on microscopic education, offers a one-of-a-kind experience for medical practitioners and researchers. Its open-minded vision and attention to detail make it a standout landmark in Taichung, contributing to a better world of education and innovation.
