The Luna Salon stands out due to its unique properties. Chang tackled the challenge of the building's long structure by incorporating the concept of a library. A large, elongated table sits at the center of the space, breaking away from traditional salon designs. This table serves multiple functions, increasing interaction between consumers and designers and allowing the space to be transformed into a meeting area, classroom, or presentation area.
Chang's design realization technology further enhances the uniqueness of Luna Salon. The walls are stripped of paint, and a series of mirrors and functional structures made of iron and wood are arranged. This creates a natural texture that mirrors the artistic behavior of hairstylists. The conversation between textures, perception, and space is palpable, adding to the salon's unique ambiance.
The design specifications of Luna Salon are a testament to Chang's minimalist and modernist approach. The 45m2 space is designed to highlight behavior patterns and product features, making them the protagonists of the space. The wall is hand-drilled, creating an aesthetic feeling of imperfection and bringing the atmosphere closer to nature.
Despite the limited budget and space, Chang managed to fit in a waiting area, consultant area, five seats, a flush area, a counter, and a merchandise display area. The design challenges were numerous, but Chang successfully excluded most people's ideology about salons being fashionable, trendy, and stylish. Instead, Luna Salon is a space that is serene, rugged, and artistic.
The Luna Salon project was completed between October 2015 and January 2016 in Changhua, Taiwan. The design research was centered around the actions of hairstylists when designing hairstyles. The result is a space that is devoid of excessive decorations, focusing instead on the natural beauty of the space and the art of hair styling.
In conclusion, Luna Salon is a testament to Yu-Jui Chang's innovative design approach. The salon's design is a perfect blend of functionality and aesthetics, providing a unique and interactive experience for its users. This project serves as an inspiration for future salon designs, proving that even the most traditional spaces can be transformed through innovative design.
