Mindfulness: A Modern New Oriental Interior Design

Transforming Natural Elements into Tranquil Spaces

The rolling hills are transformed into interior spaces, allowing natural light and forms to appear inside, and then applying tranquility, harmony, and oriental elements to the interior. - Chun-Fang Mao

Chun-Fang Mao, a renowned interior designer, has created a stunning interior design called "Mindfulness" that seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with traditional oriental elements. Inspired by the beauty of nature, Mao has successfully brought the image of the East into the space, creating a calm and harmonious atmosphere.

One of the unique features of the "Mindfulness" design is the imitation of natural stone walls and steel cabinets, which adds a sense of layering to the space. The use of wood, stone, and iron materials further enhances the overall design, conveying a feeling of stability and warmth. Through meticulous attention to detail, Mao has created a space that exudes modern new oriental features.

Technological advancements have also been incorporated into the design. The inner walls are made of diatomaceous earth, which helps regulate humidity and absorb formaldehyde. Additionally, a hidden dehumidifier has been installed to solve any dampness issues. The flooring consists of island floors and hand-textured solid wood floors, providing both comfort and warmth.

The color palette of the living room, dining room, and kitchen is unified, with black, white, and grey tones creating a low-key, simple, and warm ambiance. The use of stone veneers adds a touch of elegance and spatial stratification to the design.

Functionality and flexibility were key considerations in the "Mindfulness" design. The steel glass door between the living room and dining room can be opened or closed, creating two separate spaces that can be used independently or combined for larger gatherings. The open bar and restaurant area offer additional features, providing a perfect space for family events and emotional communication.

The "Mindfulness" design project was completed in January 2018 in Linkou, Taiwan. It spans a total area of 258 square meters. The design team, led by Chun-Fang Mao, included CHIH-WAN CHANG.

Chun-Fang Mao's research and creative process for the "Mindfulness" design focused on transforming oriental humanities into indoor spaces. The challenge was to incorporate furniture, materials, and colors that would effectively convey the essence of Chinese gardens. Through careful planning and execution, Mao successfully achieved this goal.

The "Mindfulness" design has received recognition and accolades, including the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate innovation, practicality, and adherence to professional and industrial standards. Mao's design has not only fulfilled these criteria but has also contributed to creating a better world through its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics.
