Cultural Content: A Cozy and Artistic Residential Apartment Design

Creating an Elegantly Simple Beauty

The flooring inside the space adopted a jointed wooden floor, and through the direction of the flooring, the segmentation approach conveys the spatial layers and looks. Transforming lifestyle into design vocabularies, arranging the fundamental color tone for art within the space structured by the lines.

Chen-Chuan Tang, a renowned designer, has brought a unique and artistic touch to residential apartment design with his project, Cultural Content. This design stands out from others in its emphasis on creating a cozy and comfortable household ambiance while incorporating art to accentuate the extraordinary cultural and aesthetic content of the residence.

One of the standout features of Cultural Content is its open space flooded with bright sunshine. The design theme revolves around eliminating the commonly seen color tones and spatial tones of residences, opting instead for an elegantly simple beauty. The use of jointed wooden flooring and carefully arranged lines creates a sense of spatial layers and visual interest.

Lighting plays a crucial role in the realization of this design. Tang's meticulous thoughts and ingenuity are evident in the placement of a large rectangular chandelier above the dining room and small lamps strategically positioned throughout the space. The lighting sources are not limited to the ceiling and walls; they are also projected from lower places, adding depth and enhancing the overall design concept.

The apartment spans an impressive 294 square meters and features a dining room that serves as the axis of the space. The wood flooring in this area exudes a sense of mellowness, creating a clean and inviting ambience. Hidden doors within the walls connect to the son's room and the kitchen, while the segmented wall design adds a touch of visual interest and functionality.

One of the design challenges was the tall height of the original building. Tang tackled this by opting for a large area without independent segmentation for the lounge and study ceilings. This unique approach deviates from the norm and adds to the overall design aesthetic. The study also features folding doors and a sliding track made of transparent glass, showcasing the designer's attention to detail and innovative use of materials.

The Cultural Content project was completed in Taipei in April 2019. It is a testament to Tang's dedication to creating a residential space that combines comfort, art, and cultural significance. This design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, winning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that showcase technical and creative skills while contributing to quality of life improvements.
