Metaphors in White: A Unique Residential Design

Li-Yung Chen and Wei-Cheng Tsai's Award-Winning Design

Li-Yung Chen and Wei-Cheng Tsai's "Metaphors in White" is a residential apartment design that beautifully integrates the house owner's personal and professional life. The design is a winner of the prestigious Iron A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020.

The design inspiration for "Metaphors in White" came from the house owner's company logo, symbolizing the founder's dedication and hard work. The design principle consolidates the residence and company elements, creating a living space exclusively tailor-made for the house owner.

The design team completed the architecture, interior design, and construction of this residential project. The design's unique properties include the family crest subtly appearing on the white wall, signifying the evolutions of design and space expansions that come from the residents' life experiences.

The realization of the design involved a dark brown hallway connecting the living and dining room, signifying space transitions. The wood veneers embellished with two colors change colors and angle of views with the glare and weak light reflections. The dining room, decorated with a contemporary-style crystal hanging lamp, exudes splendor and grace.

The design of the 300 square meter house progresses in three stages. The design of indoor scenes is based on white essences and the family crest. The eastern composed spirits and the simplified contemporary classical elements exemplify the house owner's inner hearts with the pure and calm features of white evolving figuratively in the space.

The design faced challenges in incorporating the family crest and delicate wall panel moldings in the private area. The linear design based on rectangular shapes clarified the classical style, creating an elegant and laid-back space with white, light gray, and wood grain floors. Despite the design ideas and materials, the entire design project upholds the attitude of respecting and co-living with nature.

The design was realized in a 330 square meter apartment. The bright and elegant living room features the family crest on the wall, laser-cut and painted in white. The open kitchen furnished with the island counter creates smooth traffic flows and clean lines. The stair handrails embellished with cast iron laser and matte black reveal warm textures.

The "Metaphors in White" design project is a testament to the dedication and creativity of designers Li-Yung Chen and Wei-Cheng Tsai. It is a unique blend of personal and professional elements, creating a living space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also deeply meaningful to the house owner.
