What sets the RiutBag X35 apart is its ability to transform from a compact 15-litre laptop backpack to a spacious 40-litre cabin bag. This is made possible by an ingenious origami-inspired design that allows the bag to expand and contract as required. The bag's zips are hidden against the wearer's back, ensuring security and peace of mind during travel.
The RiutBag X35 is not just a product of creative design, but also of meticulous research and customer feedback. Giblin's design process involves reading customer feedback surveys and focusing on the problems they raise. She then hand-draws her designs and prototypes them with a factory in China, which has produced over 20,000 RiutBags to date.
Constructed from durable and waterproof materials like 1000D nylon cordura and thermoplastic polyurethane, the RiutBag X35 is built to withstand the rigours of city travel. Each bag is personally checked by Giblin in the factory to ensure the highest quality before they are shipped.
The RiutBag X35's design journey began in March 2019 in Manchester, England. After a three-month design and prototype phase, the bag was funded on Kickstarter in June 2019, with the first production completed in November 2019. The project was a response to the rapid urban change in cities and the evolving needs of urban travellers.
For her innovative design, Giblin was awarded Silver in the A' Fashion and Travel Accessories Design Award in 2020. The award recognises top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The RiutBag X35 is a testament to Giblin's commitment to creating travel solutions that are secure, flexible, and adaptable.
