Sishi Bajie: A Minimalist Chinese Restaurant

Bringing Together Food and Art in Nanning

Sishi Bajie is a new four-season Chinese restaurant in Nanning that combines minimalist design with a collision of food and art. Designed by Darble Kong, this unique space offers a new dining experience that blends simplicity, elegance, and Chinese cultural characteristics.

The inspiration for Sishi Bajie comes from elements with Chinese cultural characteristics, such as screens, medicine kits, ceramics, and sculptures. Darble Kong has reinterpreted these traditional elements in a modern way, creating a space that is both familiar and innovative. The design concept revolves around the experience of the ceremonial porch, using black iron material to create a sense of key space transformation. As guests pass through the porch into the open area, they are greeted with different materials on the large wall, promoting a sense of change and exploration.

What sets Sishi Bajie apart is its focus on the relationship between food and culture. The designer, Darble Kong, has carefully considered the emotional communication channel between food and diners, creating an environment that stimulates all the senses. The use of simple materials and exquisite modeling enhances the collision of food and art, creating a unique atmosphere that is both inviting and thought-provoking.

The design of Sishi Bajie incorporates a balance of concrete and wood elements, creating a natural and warm atmosphere. Different materials and colors are used to distinguish functional areas, reducing physical partitions and giving the space a sense of openness. The design also pays attention to texture, with a simple yet elegant aesthetic that adds to the overall experience.

Spanning 350 square meters, Sishi Bajie features a flowing connection through segmentation and grille, ensuring a sense of continuity throughout the space. The addition of medicine boxes, ceramics, carvings, and other elements adds a touch of nobility and elegance. The delicate texture details on the facade and the inlaid lighting further enhance the overall visual appeal.

Sishi Bajie is not just a restaurant; it is an immersive experience that activates every cell of the diners. The alternating colors and shapes in the space create visual tension, allowing diners to fully immerse themselves in the colors and flavors of the food. The design challenges were overcome through the use of concrete, wood, leather, and wall painting, creating a rich and diversified space texture.

The interiors of Sishi Bajie follow the same minimalist spirit as the overall design. The geometric shapes and warm colors of the furniture, lighting, and decorations create a fresh and natural atmosphere. The scattered chandeliers soften the square space and provide visual focal points.

Sishi Bajie, designed by Darble Kong, is a testament to the fusion of food and art. It offers a unique dining experience that stimulates the senses and invites guests to appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture. The design has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2020, highlighting its outstanding creativity and contribution to quality of life improvements.
