DokHaeTok: Enhancing Reading Comprehension Through Innovation

A Unique Brand Experience for Children

DokHaeTok is a reading comprehension brand that provides an exciting learning experience through a variety of media. Designed by Jaehun Kim and his team, DokHaeTok aims to link reading with enjoyment, helping children naturally develop a love for reading.

Reading comprehension is a crucial skill for children, but in today's digital age, it can be challenging to capture their attention. DokHaeTok addresses this issue by offering a unique brand experience that combines books, an interactive app, and a cube game. The brand's innovative approach makes learning to read fun and engaging.

The book itself is divided into five thin theme books, each with a different topic. The cover design cleverly links this feature to the image of a can being opened, creating a sense of excitement and anticipation. Inside the book, children will find bubble-like features that contain questions freely placed on the page. This interactive element allows kids to learn to read as easily and simply as taking a quiz.

But DokHaeTok doesn't stop at just the physical book. The brand also offers an app that complements the reading experience. The app features a chatbot that helps children answer questions and provides additional support. By integrating the app with the books, DokHaeTok creates a seamless and immersive learning experience.

One of the strengths of DokHaeTok is its focus on providing a variety of media for children to engage with. In addition to the books and app, the brand offers a range of supplies such as study notes and mobile phone cases. These items further encourage children to immerse themselves in the world of reading and learning.

Technical innovation plays a significant role in the realization of DokHaeTok. The bookbinding technology used to bind the five thin theme books into one ensures a seamless reading experience. Harmless far infrared ink, tooling, and epoxy resin are used to ensure the safety of children. The app, available on both iOS and Android, incorporates an interactive chatbot system that allows children to communicate directly and receive personalized assistance.

With dimensions of 225mm x 300mm x 13mm, DokHaeTok is designed to be easily portable and accessible for children. The use of harmless far-infrared ink and rounded corners prioritizes the safety and comfort of young readers. The app's chatbot feature adds convenience, allowing users to request information and receive answers in a user-friendly manner.

The DokHaeTok project was conducted in Seoul, Korea, from July 2019 to December 2019. The design team, led by Jaehun Kim, conducted extensive research on reading skills and comprehension. The team discovered that many children were struggling with reading and sought to create a brand that would make reading enjoyable and accessible.

Recognizing the challenges of building reading habits in children who are more drawn to videos, DokHaeTok was designed with easy and familiar topics, a playful layout, and simple quizzes for self-checking. The brand's app, reminiscent of popular children's games, helps children feel confident in their reading abilities while having fun.

DokHaeTok has received recognition for its innovative design. In 2020, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements.

DokHaeTok is not just a brand; it is a gateway to a world of reading and learning. By combining traditional books with interactive technology, DokHaeTok provides a unique and engaging experience that inspires children to develop a lifelong love for reading.
